Bread Bowls
Nothing screams winter to me more than homemade soup and nothing complements soup more a bread bowl, am I right? So what are you to do when you are trying to limit carbs and still want a little indulgence every once in awhile? Enter “two-ingredient” dough and watch your world get rocked. I’ve made said dough a few times over the last year - mainly as air fryer bagels, which if your haven’t tried these yet, you must! So when I was in the middle of making a batch of French Onion soup, I knew I had to try making a homemade bread bowl with maybe only half the guilt. Luckily for me the recipe only has a few ingredients and these are items I usually have on hand. The normal two-ingredient dough calls for self-rising flour and greek yogurt, but self-rising flour is very easy to make yourself, using traditional flour, baking powder and salt. Without further adieu, my recipe for my five ingredient bread bowl - bake up a batch and fill with your favorite homemade or store bought soup!
ingredients:
2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
2 cups plain greek yogurt
1 egg, whisked
directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and mix to combine. Place flour mixture in a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook. Add greek yogurt and mix at low speed until a smooth dough forms, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Split dough into half and form a ball with each half of the dough. Transfer balls of dough to a parchment lined baking sheet. Using a basting brush lightly spread the egg wash over the dough.
Bake for 20-30 minutes until bread is golden brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then cut a circle at the top of the loaf and scoop out the inside of the bread bowl. Fill with your favorite soup.
